To Fratt, on a whim!

Nice to meet you! My name is Nicole. I am from America, but I live in Kanoya now. I am a big fan of Kanoya! So, from now on, I’d like to write about my experiences in both English and Japanese. 初めまして！ニコルと申します。出身はアメリカなんですけど、今鹿屋に住んでいます。私は鹿屋の大ファンです！だから、これから私が体験した事について英語と日本語で書きたい。よろしくお願いします！

This year I’ll be returning to America for Christmas, so I’m searching for unique gifts from Kanoya to give my friends and family.
今年はクリスマスのために帰国しますので、友人や家族に渡すために鹿屋からのユニークなプレゼントを探しています。

I first noticed Fratt at Markt Ohsumi, where they always had an attractive display of jewelry, accessories and home goods.
大隅マルクトで最初にFrattを知り、いつも手作りのジュエリーやアクセサリー、日用品などが魅力的に展示されていました。

After that, I became curious about the meaning of the word Zakka. We don’t have this kind of store in America. According to Wikipedia, “To qualify as zakka, a product must be attractive, sensitive, and laden with subtext.”
それから、「ザッカ」という言葉の意味を知りたかった。アメリカにはこんなお店がありません。英語のWikipediaによると、「雑貨は、魅力的であり、感度が高く、そこにストーリーを持っている製品のことです。」っという事です。

Next, I learned that Fratt in Japanese is actually ふらっと, which means “on a whim.” Intrigued by this concept, I decided–on a whim–to check it out for myself!
その上に、英語の「Fratt」は日本語で「ふらっと」は「ふとした思いつきで」っという意味です。このコンセプトに興味を持って、「ふらっと」した気持ちで自分自身で行ってみました。

From the outside, the store looks like an adorable old house, with vines and flowers surrounding various products.
外から見ると、店は愛らしい古民家のようで、お花が色々なものを取り囲んでます。

Inside, the store had a very chic and cozy ambiance.
店内はとてもシックで居心地の良い雰囲気でした。

I enjoyed browsing the products slowly as charming music played in the background.
BGMで流れていた魅力的な音楽を聴きながらゆっくりと見て回ることを楽しんだ。

The shelves are filled with unique home and kitchen goods, handmade accessories and jewelry, chic clothing and shoes, and even artisanal coffee products.
棚にはユニークな家庭用品やキッチン用品、手作りのアクセサリーやジュエリー、シックな衣服や靴、さらにはスペシャリティコーヒー製品が並んでいました。

There were so many cute things to choose from that it took me a very long time to make a decision!
迷うほどたくさんかわいい物があったので、決めるのに非常に長い時間がかかったほどです！

After walking around the store several times, I settled on some delicate wooden chopsticks, cute patterned socks, and ginger tea sachets for my two friends.
店を数回歩いた後、2人の友達のために繊細な木製の箸、かわいい柄の靴下も、ジンジャーティーも選んだ。

The store clerk kindly wrapped the items into perfect little gift bags.
店員さんはギフトバッグに商品を完璧に包み込んでくれました。

They are small and light enough to fit in my suitcase, and I am sure my friends will be delighted to have something that they cannot find in America!
スーツケースに収まるくらい小さくて軽いし、友達はアメリカでは見つけられない物を持っていることを喜ぶでしょう！

Fratt is a perfect place for holiday shopping, for any member of your family or friends. Warm scarfs and blankets are especially good Christmas gifts for the cold winter!
Frattは、ご家族やお友達のため休日のショッピングに最適な場所です。暖かいスカーフや毛布は、特に寒い冬のクリスマスプレゼントに最適です！

I’ll definitely be stopping in again… a present for myself next time!
絶対にまた行こう。。。次回は自分のためのプレゼントを買いに！
